Miss Priss. That name has certainly come to fit her. She’s a typical teenager, talks back, wants everything she sees, especially if someone else has it, and doesn’t like to listen to what her elders have to say. Yes, it seems that she’s developed an attitude. Though it’s not always a bad thing, she’s got a lot of drive, I can see that. She’s ready for the next challenge, even if she’s stubborn and doesn’t want to obey the first time. I can defiantly see her being a champion. She’s a beautiful strong willed creature, and I’m expecting great things out of this one. Even if she is a pain sometimes.

And we are just learning to walk
I can’t get enough of Penny’s puppies! They’re so clumsy and cute. Little Blue was walking toward their food bowl, and tripped and did a face plant in their puppy mush! After they eat, they play, which smears all the food they got on their faces all over each other! Penny’s got a huge cleaning job ahead of her. ![]()

Cutest stage
Penny’s little green collar boy is so cute! His face is a lot darker than his siblings’, you almost can’t see the markings. He’s also quite adventurous. He tries to climb on top of my bags, chew on them, explore. Just now, he was standing in mom’s bowl of kibble, and she didn’t like that so she pushed him out! They’re also all getting their teeth in. It just tickles right now when they chew on your toes, but I know that will change soon!

From sweet to strong
It’s always interesting to see what kind of mom all the dobermans here will become. We go from really good mothers, to not so good, protective, to calm. all Dogs really do all have personalities of their own. I wasn’t expecting sweet little Penny to be such a protective mother. Maybe it’s because it’s her first time, but it’s good to see that spark in her.

Perfect Summer Day
There’s something about the way the Doberman’s stubby little nubs of a tail wag when they’re happy, or the sleepy half growl, half bark of puppies testing their vocal chords, or the way the little ones learning to walk just tip right over when there’s a loud noise as if the sheer volume is enough to knock them off their balance. There’s something about the way the new mom’s look at you with their brown eyes, trusting you to help them care for their babies, or the way they press their heads into your legs when you rub their ears. There’s something about a sweet summer day, peaches and yogurt, and blessed air conditioning that make an absolutely perfect day at Family Dobes.

Hiking with Dobermans
I went hiking in the desert with my 3-month-old puppy, and made a big mistake! I was always careful to take her on walks when the sidewalk wasn’t hot from the sun, but somehow forgot that sand and rocks would be even hotter. My poor girl was darting around to find shade so her tender feet wouldn’t hurt, before I realized what was wrong! Her paws didn’t get burnt, thank goodness, but I had to hike with a 25 pound puppy draped across my neck! She was tired and grateful to be off the ground, so she barely wiggled at all. Always think of how the terrain can hurt your puppy! If you can’t walk comfortably on it barefoot, don’t ask your puppy to. I wonder if she’ll like dog boots…
